Helukabel SOLARFLEX-X H1Z2Z2-K 6mm² Red – 500m PV cable for solar panels
The Helukabel SOLARFLEX-X H1Z2Z2-K 6mm² red is a professional solar cable for the DC cabling of solar panels. This 500-metre roll is perfect for larger PV projects on company roofs, farms and field installations, as well as for demanding DIYers who like to work with A-brand cable.
This is a single-core, tinned copper cable with a cross-section of 6 mm², specially developed according to DIN EN 50618 for PV applications. The cable is halogen-free, UV- and weather-resistant and suitable for outdoor use as well as direct ground cable (preferably in tube or sand bed). The red jacket is almost always used in PV installations for the positive (+) DC line, in combination with a black cable for the minus.
Application: what do you use this red Helukabel PV cable for?
- DC cabling between solar panels and string inverter (plus line).
- Cabling between string box/combiner box and inverter.
- PV cabling on roofs, in cable ducts, tubes
- Large field arrangements and commercial roofs where long cable lengths are required.
The 6 mm² copper cross-section keeps voltage drop low at longer runs and higher string currents, directly contributing to improved system efficiency.
Main benefits of SOLARFLEX-X 6mm² red
- 1500 V DC suitable – designed for modern PV systems up to 1500 V DC according to EN 50618.
- 6 mm² copper cross-section – lower voltage drop and less power loss than thinner cables.
- Tinned, fine-stranded copper conductor (class 5) – excellent conductivity and additional corrosion protection.
- Cross-linked insulation and sheathing – high temperature resistance and mechanical robustness.
- Halogen-free and flame-retardant – safer in case of fire, with less smoke and no corrosive gases.
- UV, ozone and weather resistant – perfect for long-term use on roofs and outdoors.
- Suitable as ground cable – may be laid directly into the ground (preferably in sand bed or sheathed pipe).
- Red jacket – ideal for clearly distinguishing the plus cable from the minus (black) in your DC path.
- 500m reel – fewer couplers and splices, ideal for installers and large projects.

Installation tips for 6 mm² red PV cable
- 1. Use red for plus, black for minus
Make it easy on yourself (and the next mechanic): use red as standard for the + and black for the – of your strings. This avoids confusion and errors during service. - 2. Calculate voltage drop
Calculate the voltage drop at full load. Especially with long runs or higher currents, 6 mm² is often a sensible choice to stay within 1-1.5% voltage drop. - 3. Observe the minimum bending radius
Avoid sharp corners and kinks, especially at roof penetrations and pipe bends. Keep at least 5× the outside diameter as the bending radius. - 4. Protect at penetrations and edges
Use grommets, cable glands and possibly additional conduit along sharp edges or aluminium/steel roof supports. - 5. Combine with correct DC protection
Make sure the cable is matched with proper fuses, DC switches and surge protection as prescribed by the inverter manufacturer and standards.
