Growatt MOD 11KTL3-HU – 3-phase hybrid with integrated backup (11 kW)
Want a quiet, robust inverter that works effortlessly with an HV battery as well as keeps critical groups active in case of grid failure? Then the Growatt MOD 11KTL3-HU fits the bill perfectly. This HU variant has backup (EPS) already built in: no separate box, fewer components and faster installation. Fanless (silent), IP66 (suitable for outdoors) and with clear menus for control and monitoring-pleasant for both installer and end user.
How does this work in practice?
During the day, the inverter feeds domestic consumption and charges the HV battery system (APX) with surplus power. In the evening or during peaks, the HU delivers energy from the battery back into the house. If the grid fails, the HU switches to emergency operation at lightning speed and your pre-selected groups (e.g. router, lighting, fridge/freezer) remain active-without additional hardware.
Designing with security (for the installer)
- MPP trackers & string layout
Separate east/west and shade zones per tracker. Aim with the string voltage around the middle of the MPP range: this way the behaviour remains stable in winter cold as well as summer heat and you limit clipping. - Battery sizing (APX battery system)
Match your stack to evening/night consumption and desired backup duration. Choosing a slightly larger size prevents unnecessary recharging and extends the lifespan. - Energy counter = must-have
Place the Growatt 3-phase Smart Meter directly behind the main connection and connect to the inverter via RS485. This way, export-limiting and battery logic work as intended. - Phase balance & back-up groups
Distribute heavy consumers over the phases. In backup, you mainly take the essential groups; large peak consumers only if battery stack and cabling can cope. - AC/DC details
AC: correct circuit breaker/selectivity, earthing and clear labelling.
DC: press waterproof MC4/H4 connectors correctly, measure polarity and insulation value; match cable sections to length and current.
Installation in five steps
- Installation & cooling – install vertically, keep free space for natural convection, out of direct spray water and bright sun.
- AC connection – 3-phase 230/400 V; correct circuit breaker and earthing, clear labelling.
- DC connection – strings per MPP tracker; check polarity and insulation value.
- Smart Meter – install 3-phase energy meter and connect to the HU via RS485.
- Commissioning – select from the menu: Load first, Battery first or Grid first; test backup switching and check phase balance.
When to choose the MOD 11KTL3-HU?
- You want emergency power without an external backup box.
- You want to work with an HV battery now or later and control consumption, tariffs and feed-in flexibly.
- You appreciate quiet, IP66-capable hardware that is quick and logical to install.
