How does this work in practice?

During the day, the inverter feeds your consumption directly and charges the HV battery system (APX) with surplus. In the evening or at peak loads, the HU delivers from the battery back into your home. If the grid fails, the HU quickly switches to emergency operation and keeps your pre-selected groups (e.g. router, lighting, fridge/freezer) active-without the hassle of extra hardware.

Safe design (for the installer)

• MPP trackers & string layout
  Separate orientations (east/west) and shade zones per tracker. Aim with your string voltage around the middle of the MPP range: more stable behaviour in cold and heat, less clipping.

• Battery sizing (APX battery system)
  Choose your stack based on evening/night consumption and desired backup duration. Rather slightly wider than too tight; this prevents unnecessary frequent recharging and prolongs battery life.

• Energy counter = must-have
  Place the Growatt 3-phase Smart Meter directly behind the main connection and connect to the inverter via RS485. Then export-limiting and battery logic will work as intended.

• Phase balance & back-up groups
  Distribute heavy consumers over the phases. In backup, you mainly take the essential groups; large peak consumers only if your battery stack and cabling can cope.

• AC/DC details
  AC: proper circuit breaker/selectivity, earthing, neat labelling.
  DC: press waterproof MC4/H4 connectors correctly, measure polarity and insulation value, match cable sections to length and current.

Installation in five steps

1. Installation & cooling – install vertically, keep clear for natural convection, out of direct spray and bright sun.

2. AC connection – 3-phase 230/400 V; correct circuit breaker and earthing, clear labelling.

3. DC connection – strings per MPP tracker; check polarity/isolation.

4. Smart Meter – install 3-phase meter and connect to the HU via RS485.

5. Commissioning – select in the menu: Load first, Battery first or Grid first; test backup switching and check phase balance.
