Installing solar panels on a flat roof calls for a completely different mounting system than a sloping roof. There are no roof tiles to hook behind and no pitch that aims the panels at the sun by itself. Instead, the panels stand on a raised structure that is held in place with ballast.

What should you look out for with solar panels on a flat roof?

Load-bearing capacity of the roof. A ballasted layout adds extra weight, concentrated where the blocks sit. If in doubt, have the structure checked.
Roof covering. On bitumen and EPDM you place protective rubbers under the support points, so the structure does not damage the layer.
Edge distance. Keep a distance from the roof edge; that is where the wind load is highest.
Row spacing. With several rows, make sure the front row does not shade the one behind it in winter.
