Esdec steel roof in portrait: when is it the right choice?

This Esdec steel roof set is put together for 8 panels in portrait, standing upright side by side in a single row. Portrait is usually the choice when the roof surface is not wide but tall, or when the spacing between the fixing points in the roof sheet works out better with an upright layout.

On a steel roof you fix the structure directly onto the roof sheet, with blind rivets or self-drilling screws. The ClickFit EVO mounting rails run crosswise over them, and you clamp the panels down with universal module clamps. No roof hooks are involved, which makes mounting on a steel roof a good deal faster than on tiles.

Points to watch

  • Fix into the crown of the corrugation, not into the troughs. Water stands there when it rains.
  • Check the sheet thickness before you choose between blind rivets and screws.
  • Mind the height. In portrait the row becomes taller; check that you stay within the permitted height of the roof surface.
  • Check the loads. An Esdec steel roof structure puts point loads on the roof sheet; on a lightweight roof that is worth verifying.
