You currently feed that electricity back into the grid for a tariff that is falling every year, and on 1 January 2027, the net metering scheme will be phased out completely. With 3 kWh of storage, you can simply use it yourself in the evening. You can connect the battery yourself, without an installer, and expand it later to 18 kWh as your consumption grows.

You can connect the HYXi Halo plug-in battery yourself
A standard home battery usually involves getting a quote, hiring an installer and often waiting for months. With the HYXi Halo, you simply place it where you want, plug it into a earthed socket and connect it to your Wi-Fi via the app. No modifications to the meter cupboard, no installation costs, no waiting list.
That also makes the Halo a viable option if you don’t own your home. Are you a tenant, do you live in a flat, or are you planning to move in a few years’ time? You can simply take the battery with you.
800 or 3,000 watts: it depends on your connection
You decide how much power the Halo can supply to your home by how you connect it. There are two options:
Plug it into a standard socket
Up to 800 W. Just plug it into a grounded socket and you’re sorted. Enough to cover your basic load: fridge, lighting, TV, Wi-Fi and devices on standby.
On a spare circuit
Up to 3,000 W. If you have a separate circuit installed, the Halo delivers almost four times as much power. This is useful if your power peaks are higher, for example due to the oven, kettle or tumble dryer.
You can easily start with a single socket and have a dedicated circuit fitted later on. Nothing changes with the battery itself.
From 3 to 18 kWh: you set the pace
The HYXi Halo is modular. You start with the 3 kWh base module and stack up to five expansion modules on top of it, up to a total of 18 kWh. You simply click each module into place; the battery recognises the new capacity automatically.
This means you don’t have to guess in advance how much storage you’ll need. If you get a heat pump, an electric car or simply more solar panels later on, the battery scales up with you, without you having to reinvest in a whole new system.
How much is 3 kWh, actually? A two-person household consumes an average of around 2,300 kWh per year, which is roughly 6 kWh per day. With 3 kWh of storage, you can roughly cover your evening and night-time needs: cooking, washing, lighting and appliances on standby. For a family of four (around 3,700 kWh per year), 6 kWh is usually the better starting point: the basic module plus one extension.

Smart charging based on weather and tariff
The HYXi Halo doesn’t just charge whenever there’s surplus electricity. The system looks ahead at the weather forecast and your energy tariffs, and uses this information to determine when charging and discharging will be most cost-effective.
Do you have a dynamic energy contract? Then this becomes particularly beneficial, even without solar panels: the battery charges during the cheaper night-time hours and supplies your home with power during the expensive evening peak. Via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, you can monitor what’s happening in real time via the app and make adjustments. The battery is also suitable for connection to a virtual power plant (VPP), whereby your storage capacity helps to balance the grid.
Metering with the HYXi Halo plug-in battery: P1 as standard, 3-phase option available
The box containing the main unit always includes a P1 meter. You connect this to the P1 port on your smart meter, allowing the Halo to know exactly how much your home is currently consuming and generating. No modifications to the meter cupboard, no need for an installer.
Would you prefer to measure using current clamps, or do you have a three-phase connection? In that case, two energy meters can be ordered separately:
DDSU meter with 1 current clamp
For a standard single-phase connection, as an alternative to measuring via P1.
DTSU meter with 3 current clamps
One clamp per phase, so that the battery can monitor what is happening in each phase.
This makes the Halo one of the few plug-in batteries that also works on a three-phase connection. Handy if you have a heat pump, a charging point or a higher-capacity connection. Please note, however, that both meters need to be installed in the meter cupboard. This is a modification that must be carried out by an installer; the battery itself remains plug-and-play.
Emergency power during a power cut
If the power goes out, the HYXi Halo plug-in battery will continue to work. The main unit has a separate socket that provides emergency power at such times, with a capacity of up to 3,000 W. You can connect your fridge, modem, central heating boiler or an extension lead with lights to this, for example.
Important to note: this refers to that single socket on the battery itself. It is therefore not possible to power your entire home during a power cut. For that, you’ll need a fixed home battery with a transfer switch.
Indoors and outdoors, from −20 °C to +55 °C
The HYXi Halo has an IP66 protection rating: dust-tight and resistant to powerful water jets. So you can place it just as easily in the shed, garage or utility room as on the balcony, terrace or against the façade.
The operating temperature range is from −20 °C to +55 °C, so a Dutch winter’s night or a heatwave is no problem. Measuring 46.0 × 28.1 × 27.9 cm and weighing 28 kg per module, the battery remains compact enough to fit in a corner of the balcony.
Safety: LiFePO4 and an automatic fire suppression system
The Halo uses LiFePO4 cells (lithium iron phosphate). This chemistry is more thermally stable than the NMC cells found in many older home batteries, and lasts considerably longer. On top of that, there is an automatic fire-suppression mechanism built into the housing.
The cells are rated for over 10,000 charge cycles. At one full cycle per day, that works out to well over twenty years. HYXi offers a 10-year warranty on the battery.

Frequently asked questions about the HYXi Halo plug-in battery
Do I need an installer for the HYXi Halo?
No. Simply place the battery, plug it into an earthed socket and connect the supplied P1 meter to your smart meter. Only if you opt for a DDSU or DTSU meter with current clamps will work be required in the meter cupboard, and you should have an installer carry this out.
How much power does the HYXi Halo supply?
When connected to a standard earthed socket, the Halo supplies up to 800 W to your home. If you connect it to a spare circuit, this increases to 3,000 W. The emergency power socket on the unit also supplies up to 3,000 W.
Does the battery work with my smart meter?
Yes. The main unit’s box always contains a P1 meter. You connect this to the P1 port on your smart meter, and the Halo is then immediately ready for use.
Does the HYXi Halo work with a three-phase connection?
Yes, with the DTSU meter featuring 3 current clamps, one per phase. You order this separately and have it fitted in the meter cupboard. For a single-phase connection, there is the DDSU meter with 1 clamp.
Will I still have power during a power cut?
The main unit has a separate socket that provides emergency power of up to 3,000 W in the event of a power cut, for example for your fridge or modem. It is not possible to supply power to your entire home; for that, you’ll need a fixed home battery with a switchover system.
Does the HYXi Halo also work without solar panels?
Yes. With a dynamic energy contract, the battery charges during the cheapest hours and you use that electricity during the expensive evening peak.
Can the battery be kept outdoors?
Yes. The HYXi Halo is IP66-rated and operates from −20 °C to +55 °C. Do keep it out of direct sunlight for prolonged periods, though.

What will change when the net metering scheme ends?
From 1 January 2027, you will no longer be able to offset electricity fed back into the grid against your consumption. Until 2030, you’ll still receive at least 50% of the basic supply tariff for this. From that point onwards, consuming the electricity yourself will consistently yield a higher return than feeding it back into the grid. This is exactly what the HYXi Halo plug-in battery is designed for.
