The Growatt APX battery system is a modular, stackable battery system, suitable for the MOD XH-BP and MID XH 3-phase series from Growatt. The storage capacity can be scaled flexibly between 5 kWh and 30 kWh. Up to 20 kWh the system takes up only 69 by 18.5 cm of floor space. For a larger capacity (so more than 4 battery modules) a second stack has to be built, which means you need 2 bases.
The advantage of the APX battery systems is that optimization takes place per battery module. Modules with different SOC and SOH can be combined with each other. The APX uses cobalt-free LiFePO4 cells with modular energy optimization, IP66 protection rating and a 4-layer safety system consisting of BMS, optimizer, fuse and aerosol. Per battery module Growatt states 4.5 kWh of usable energy at an operating voltage range of 330–450 V. The actual charging and discharging power is limited by the Growatt XH inverter you choose. A compatible Growatt energy meter is required for export limiting and smart control.
The Growatt APX battery system for MOD XH-BP and MID XH is scalable from 5 to 30 kWh per set; with compatible MID 11–30KTL3-XH inverters the total battery capacity per inverter can run up to 60 kWh.
The Growatt APX 5.0P-B1 HV battery module is a 50 kg cobalt-free LiFePO4 battery module of 5 kWh, with built-in modular energy optimization, passive protection by a jet fuse and a soft start to prevent overvoltage. That way you are assured of a reliable and safe home battery system. Thanks to the ‘Battery soft-switching parallel’ circuit you can combine old and new Growatt APX 5.0P-B1 HV battery modules from different batches and with different capacities. Mixed sets from different suppliers are possible as well, so you have optimal flexibility in your system design.
The APX battery system has a four-layer protection system consisting of a BMS, modular energy optimizer, fuse and aerosol, to guarantee optimal reliability and a long service life.
The APX 98034-P2 BMS (battery management system) is the heart of an APX battery system. It communicates via CAN/RS485 with the Growatt MOD-XH inverters. SOC, system voltage, cell voltage, cell temperature and circuit board temperatures are monitored accurately. The BMS can handle a peak current of 34 amps for up to 60 seconds. The APX 98034-P2 BMS measures 69 x 18.5 x 29.5 cm and weighs 16 kg.

Please note! There are different MOD XH inverters in circulation.
- The MOD XH (non-BP) has no neutral connection.
- The MOD XH BP does have a neutral connection.
Only the XH-BP version can be combined with the APX battery.
Pro tip for during the installation: When you start up the APX battery for the first time, do so when the inverter has enough PV power available, so when the sun is shining! The inverter can then update the batteries automatically during that first start-up. If you get error 217 at the first start-up, your inverter needs an update. Contact us if you get this error message!
