Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase

The Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase is a three-phase hybrid inverter that stands out thanks to its excellent price-quality ratio.

The inverter has 2 MPP trackers, and 2 identical strings can be connected to each tracker. This means you can use 2 orientations / tilt angles that do not influence one another in the case of shading, for example. Ideal if one part of the roof only catches the sun later than another part. If you exceed the maximum of 1000 volts per string, you can choose to split the string into 2 identical strings, so of equal length, equal orientation, equal tilt angle and roughly equal cable lengths, in order to split the voltage. On this Growatt inverter you can therefore connect 4 strings of at least 200 volts, with a combined maximum of 26000 watt peak. When the solar panels are producing at their maximum, a battery is connected to the inverter, and the battery still has room to be charged, the inverter can supply up to 13000 watts to the grid and at the same time 13000 watts to the battery. This is called the Dual Power Function.

The inverter uses natural convection cooling, so no fans are needed and the system operates silently. The Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase is also transformerless, which reduces energy losses and maximises efficiency.

The fact that the inverter is a hybrid means that a home battery can be connected to it if you wish. The suitable battery for the Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase is the Growatt APX battery system for XH, with a capacity ranging from 5 kWh to 60 kWh.

Do bear in mind that you also need a Growatt Smart meter 3-phase in order to control the battery properly. You install this energy meter right at the start of your meter cupboard, so that all incoming and outgoing energy of your entire home can be measured. You connect it with a data cable to the Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase hybrid inverter, so that it knows when to charge or discharge the battery. The energy meter also offers the option of limiting the export. That way more inverter power can be connected to a single grid connection without putting a strain on the main fuse. The Growatt MID 13000 TL3-XH 3-phase cannot be used as a battery inverter. So with this inverter you cannot choose to connect no solar panels but only a battery, and store the power of another brand of inverter in the battery.

If you also want to use the back-up function, you will need the Growatt backup box for MID XH inverters as well. This EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function switches over less quickly than the Growatt SPH series, so you will notice a power failure to some extent. Because the inverter is transformerless, it is not advisable to connect appliances with an electric motor to the emergency supply. Examples of such appliances are refrigerators, freezers, compressors, drills and washing machines. Even so, it is a reassuring thought that your lighting and your computer, for instance, simply keep working when the power in the street has gone out. The standby consumption of this inverter is approximately 5.5 watts per hour.

Different priorities can be set in the Growatt MIN XH inverters. Switching between these modes can be done on the basis of pre-set time schedules. So it is not a fully dynamic system based on electricity prices.

1. Load first: This mode ensures that the solar power generated is sent first to the appliances in the house. The surplus generated power is used to charge the battery. Once the battery is full, the remainder is fed back into the grid.
2. Battery first: The solar power generated is used first of all to charge the battery. Once that is done, the rest can go to the appliances in the house. If there is still power left over after that, it is fed back into the grid.
3. Grid first: This setting ensures that all generated power is fed straight back into the grid.

Growatt has its own monitoring platform. If you want to make use of it, order a monitoring module along with the inverter. With a Wifi-X, LAN-X or Shinelink-X dongle you can set up a connection between the inverter and the internet, so that you can check the performance of your solar panels remotely on your computer, tablet or phone. No connection for a moment? No problem at all. The dongle has a large memory, and as soon as the module can connect again, all the information is neatly forwarded and converted into a graph.
